The 745 feet long water discharge path or spray way is attached to 16 dams adjacent to the river. The spray way can emit 5,25,000 cusec feet of water per second. For this project, a budget of about 25.4 million Taka was set, but later it went up to 48 crores. After the construction of Dam, it resulted in the flooding of 54 thousand acres of agricultural land in Rangamati district and this Kaptai Lake was created.
Although it is mainly created for producing hydroelectric power, there are cultivated abundant sweetwater fish cultivated. The contribution of Kaptai Lake is significant in navigation, flood control, and agricultural cultivation. The dam of Kaptai Lake in the Rangamati District of Chittagong Hill Tracts (22 ° 09 ‘North Latitude and 92 ° 17’ East Longitude) was built at the side of Karnafuli River. The original lake area is approximately 1,722 square kilometer, but more than 777 square kilometer area is also flooded. Originally, the lake is limited in Rangamati district, which included the Upazilas of Rangamati Sadar, Kaptai, Naniarchar, Langdu, Baghaichari, Barkal, Jurachharhi and Bailachari.

How To Go To Kaptai Lake:
It takes about 7 to 8 hours to go directly to Kaptai by buses from Sayedabad or Kamlapur in Dhaka. Besides, if you want you can go to Kaptai from Chittagong. Every 30 minutes from Baddharhat bus stand leaves the bus for Kaptai. It takes BDT 80 to 120. It will take 2 hours.
