Sixty Dome Mosque, Bagherhat:
Bagerhat, the historical city of mosques, basically refers to the city or town founded on the banks of the Bhairab river in the southwest of Bangladesh by the hands of the Islamic missionary Khan ul Azam Ulugh Khan e Jahane in the fifteenth century. The then city named ‘Khalifatabad’ is one of the 15 lost historical cities of the world published by the world-famous Forbes magazine, in the evolution of time, which is now Bagerhat. In 1985, this ancient city was recognized as the city of historic mosques and listed as a ‘World Cultural Heritage’ number 321 by UNESCO. The six-domed mosque, Singair mosque, Mausoleum of Ulugh Khanjahan, and nine-domed mosque are among the city’s traditional and archaeological monuments.
Tomb of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman:
The tomb of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of a thousand years, is located at Tungipara, 19 km from the district headquarters of Gopalganj. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time and the architect of independent Bangladesh, was born in Tungipara on March 17, 1920. On August 15, 1975, he returned to his native Tungipara with an assassin’s bullet. The next day, he was buried next to his parents in the family cemetery.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mausoleum complex has changed Tungipara. The tomb complex was built on 38.30 acres of land under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture. Every day, thousands of people come to this tomb to pay their respects to the father of the nation. They were happy to know about Bangabandhu’s memory, movement-struggle, colorful life and sacrifice.
